The Schoeps CCM 8 L is a compact side-address condenser microphone with a figure-8 polar pattern. The capsule and microphone amplifier are integrated into one housing. The detachable K 5 LU cable connects its Lemo output to an XLR microphone input supplying phantom power.

MS, Double MS and Blumlein

The CCM 8 L is suitable as the Side microphone in MS and Double MS setups. Two figure-8 microphones, placed as close together as possible with their pickup axes at 90 degrees, form a Blumlein stereo pair.

The microphone captures sound equally from both ends of its pickup axis, with opposite polarity. Sound perpendicular to this axis is strongly rejected. Red and black markings identify the two pickup directions. Placement should account for sound and reflections arriving from the rear, as well as the increase in bass at close distances caused by proximity effect.
