The Schoeps W 5 D is a large hollow foam windshield for end-address Schoeps microphones with a diameter of 20 mm. It is intended for stronger wind and for reducing airflow noise caused by boom movements.

The hollow interior encloses an air volume around the capsule. The foam is mounted on a plastic carrier that fits securely onto the microphone. This prevents direct contact between the foam and the microphone, helping to avoid noise from relative movement. Slide the windshield onto the microphone until it reaches the stop.
