Wide cardioid Colette microphone capsule for soloists, ensembles and main microphone applications. Its directivity lies between that of an omnidirectional and a cardioid capsule.

Use and placement

The MK 21 captures more ambient sound than a cardioid and has a less pronounced proximity effect. When used as a spot microphone, it is therefore generally placed closer to the source.

For stereo recording, an arrangement with some capsule spacing is suitable. Schoeps gives 30 cm spacing and a 90° included angle as one example. Its directivity is too low to generate sufficient channel level differences for XY recording.
