The Schoeps MK 4P [131701] is a cardioid microphone capsule from the Colette series designed for very close speech pickup (under 20 cm). It features a fixed low-frequency roll-off intended to compensate the proximity-effect boost in close miking. This results in a flatter response for a voice directly in front of the mouth (up to its high-frequency emphasis), while low frequencies from more distant sources are reduced. In practice this helps to keep background sound and pops less prominent during close pickup.
