The Schoeps MK 4VP [131703] is a cardioid microphone capsule from the Colette series with a side-address (vertical) pickup axis, designed for very close speech pickup (<20 cm), i.e. directly in front of the speaker’s mouth. Its low-frequency roll-off is compensated by proximity effect in close use, resulting (up to its high-frequency emphasis) in a flatter response for the voice, while low frequencies from more distant sources roll off more strongly. This helps to pick up background sound less prominently than the person speaking.
