The Schoeps MK 4VP is a side-address cardioid microphone capsule from the Colette series for speech recording at distances below 20 cm. Its pickup axis is perpendicular to the microphone's longitudinal axis.

The fixed low-frequency roll-off compensates for proximity effect when used directly in front of the mouth. This produces a more balanced low-frequency response for the voice, while low-frequency sound arriving from farther away is reproduced less strongly relative to the speaker.
