The Schoeps MK 8 matched pair [131105mp] includes two matched figure-of-eight capsules from the Colette series. Designed for M/S stereo or other setups requiring bidirectional pickup, these capsules capture sound from the front and rear while strongly rejecting side sound. The pickup axis is vertical (side-address), perpendicular to the microphone body.

Despite the inherently low acoustic drive of pressure-gradient figure-of-eight capsules, the MK 8 delivers excellent frequency and polar response, nearly perfect front/back symmetry, and low self-noise. Schoeps marks the 0° axis with a red dot and the 180° with black. For correct MS alignment, the 0° axis (viewed from behind) should face left, and the engraved “8” must be precisely horizontal.

The MK 8 is relatively sensitive to handling and wind noise, so proper suspension or wind protection is advised. When used with fixed-orientation amplifiers like CMC 1 or 6, the included O-ring (No. 800540) helps with radial alignment.
