The Schoeps Parabol-Set, CMC 1 L, MK 2 combines a folding Telinga parabolic reflector with a CMC 1 L microphone amplifier and an MK 2 omnidirectional condenser capsule. The set is intended for nature recording, sports broadcasting and sound design requiring directional pickup of distant sounds.

The MK 2 capsule itself is omnidirectional. The reflector provides strong directionality at mid and high frequencies. Low frequencies are captured with less directionality, allowing low-frequency ambience to remain audible. Compared with a cardioid capsule, an omni generally causes fewer wind and handling noise problems in this application.

Equalization with ParabolEQ

The reflector changes the frequency response. Schoeps recommends its free ParabolEQ plugin to correct the recording according to the setup. The recommended operating range of the parabolic system is 100 Hz – 20 kHz. This describes the system operating range, not the frequency range of the MK 2 capsule on its own.
