The Schoeps MK 2XS is an omnidirectional condenser microphone capsule from the modular Colette series. This pressure transducer features diffuse-field equalization and is intended for recording where reflected sound predominates, such as room microphone applications at greater distances from the sound source.

Its high-frequency boost compensates for high-frequency losses in the diffuse sound field. The MK 2XS is therefore often placed beyond the critical distance, where reflected sound exceeds direct sound. Close to the sound source, the high-frequency emphasis remains clearly audible; this placement can be used when a particularly bright response is desired.
