The Schoeps MK 2S is an omnidirectional condenser microphone capsule from the modular Colette series. This pressure transducer has a moderate high-frequency boost that compensates for high-frequency losses as the proportion of reflected sound increases. It is commonly used as a main or room microphone and in A/B and Decca Tree arrays.

The MK 2S is particularly suited to placement near the critical distance, where direct sound and the diffuse sound field contribute approximately equal levels. Its high-frequency boost is stronger than that of the MK 2 and MK 2H. At high frequencies, the capsule becomes more directional, so its orientation relative to the sound source also affects the response.

The Schoeps KA 40 acoustic sphere increases high-frequency directivity and provides a slight midrange boost. This combination is used in applications including Decca Tree arrays. The KA 40 is not included.
